Description
At 112 metres long and 10 metres high, the Bourbaki panorama painting is one of the world's only surviving giant circular paintings from the 19th century. The scene depicts the first humanitarian action of the Swiss Red Cross when General Bourbaki's French army sought refuge in Switzerland during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. The painting by Edouard Castres is a European cultural monument and the main part of today's Bourbaki Museum. The Bourbaki Panorama cultural centre includes a large bar, 5 cinema halls, the Lucerne City Library and an exhibition hall.
