Description
The Benedictine abbey dating from 1120 was founded at that time by Conrad von Sellenbüren and monks from the Muri monastery. The monastery complex in the high valley of Engelberg and at the foot of Mount Titlis has a central position in the region. The present baroque complex was built after the third fire in 1829 and today includes not only the church but also a high school. The monastery focuses especially on pastoral care, handicrafts, cultural cultivation and local agriculture.
