Instead of phoning around municipalities, offices, and owners, talk to us. We know the jurisdictions, the locations, and the people behind them – and take your production to its goal via the shortest route. Our support is free of charge for productions.
Four areas in which we provide tangible relief for productions – including the two incentives for location scouting and production (FiSS/PICS).
Overview
The Film Commission supports film productions in Luzern, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden and Zug free of charge – from development and location scouting through to production, and further into post-production and promotion.
We negotiate preferential rates for hotel stays and the use of private and public land, liaise with authorities and administrations, and advise productions on all regional matters. Central Switzerland offers a wide variety of locations within a small area – from alpine landscapes to urban spaces.
This is what the collaboration looks like in practice.
Day 1 – we respond personally
You describe the project, timeframe, and location ideas. We get back to you with an initial assessment regarding feasibility, the permit situation, season, and costs – free of charge and confidential.
Proposals from six cantons
We provide suitable location suggestions from our database and network, organise site visits and negotiate terms of use with owners.
Municipality, Canton, Third Parties
We clarify responsibilities, bundle enquiries with the correct authorities and guide you through regulations regarding roads, protected areas, night work or drone flights.
Crew, Logistics, Hospitality
Basecamp, parking, power, transport, catering, accommodation and regional professionals for all departments: we provide contacts and favourable conditions.
Post-production and Promotion
We remain your point of contact even after wrap – for post-production contacts, reshoots, premieres and joint project communications.
Financial Support
The Film Commission covers eligible third-party costs for location scouting – scout, overnight stays, meals and transport. Application at least two weeks before scouting begins, decision usually within ten working days.
National: FiSS/PICS
Additionally, the federal government supports recognised Swiss co-productions through the Filmstandortförderung Schweiz FiSS – Production Incentive Switzerland (PICS): 20% of artistic and logistical, 50% of technical expenditures in Switzerland, maximum CHF 600'000 per project. A Swiss production company is a prerequisite; pure service shoots are not eligible. Rolling submissions — we are happy to connect you with suitable production partners.
