Summary
Hardly any other region in Switzerland possesses as many natural treasures as the UNESCO Biosphäre Entlebuch. It is home to Switzerland's largest and most numerous moorland landscapes, impressive karst areas, and flora and fauna of (inter)national importance. It is no surprise that the Entlebuch was designated by UNESCO as Switzerland's first biosphere reserve 20 years ago. Since then, the UNESCO Biosphäre Entlebuch has committed itself to truly sustainable action in all sectors, including a strong advocacy for soft tourism with nature- and climate-friendly offers. It has evidently done this so well that, during the UNESCO review held every ten years in 2011, the UNESCO Biosphäre Entlebuch was elevated to a model biosphere for the world. We are proud of this and continue to work towards it.
