Bourbaki Panorama - Museum

Summary

Measuring 112 metres in length and 10 metres in height, the Bourbaki Panorama is one of the world's few surviving giant circular paintings from the 19th century. The scenery depicts the first humanitarian action of the Swiss Red Cross, when General Bourbaki's French army sought refuge in Switzerland during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. The painting by Edouard Castres is a European cultural monument and the centrepiece of the current Bourbaki museum. The Bourbaki Panorama cultural centre also includes a large bar, 5 cinema halls, the Luzern city library and an exhibition hall.
