Summary

The steamship fleet on the Vierwaldstättersee is unique worldwide: five majestic Belle Époque paddle steamers, lovingly restored and still in operation today. Built between 1901 and 1928, the fleet combines technical pioneering spirit with timeless elegance – offering a setting that is rarely found elsewhere. This special character has repeatedly drawn the attention of international filmmakers to the steamers: scenes for La Chimera (2023, directed by Alice Rohrwacher), Ludwig 1881 (1993), and Brass Target (1978) were filmed on the Schiller, while the Uri featured in Indochine with Catherine Deneuve (1993).
