Summary
The name of the village Hospental comes from "hospitale", meaning hostel. It is situated at the confluence of the Furka Reuss and the Gotthard Reuss. In the 9th century, the monastery of Disentis founded the first hostel here. The village flourished as a result of the expansion of the Alpine passes. In addition to the historical village centre with its numerous wooden houses, the tower of the Lords of Hospental from the 13th century and a Baroque parish church from 1708 still remain. Key buildings have been restored in recent years.
