Summary
Today, a castle ruin and a restaurant are located on the Insel Schwanau in the Lauerzersee. The settlement of this piece of land began as early as 1,200 years ago. For a long time, the island was under Lenzburger, Kyburger and then Habsburger rule. The keep was built between 1200 and 1240. The hermit Johann Linder arrived on the island in 1684 and had a chapel built. During the Goldauer Bergsturz, the tidal wave flooded the entire island.
