Summary
Founded in 1120, this Benedictine abbey was endowed by Conrad von Sellenbüren and established by monks from Kloster Muri. The monastery complex, situated in the high valley of Engelberg at the foot of Mount Titlis, holds a central position in the region. The current Baroque complex was built after a third fire in 1829 and today houses a Gymnasium (secondary school) alongside the church. The monastery focuses particularly on pastoral care, craftsmanship, the preservation of culture, and local agriculture.
