Summary
Schloss Heidegg, first mentioned in 1192, is unique because it was not destroyed by the Confederates during the wars of liberation. It is said that Mother Mary heard the entreaties of the castle maiden and shrouded Heidegg in thick fog, which is why the former seat of the Kyburgs and Habsburgs was spared from destruction. Heidegg is the oldest surviving residential building in the Canton of Luzern. The grounds also feature a unique rose garden. In addition, the castle includes a vineyard, which has recently been extended.
