Summary

The Stanserhorn-Bahn opened on 23 August 1893 and originally ran from Stans to the summit of the Stanserhorn. It was one of the earliest electrically operated funiculars in Switzerland and is an example of early industrial mountain railway development in the Alpine region. Today, the historic railway still runs as far as the Kälti intermediate station, from where the summit is reached via a modern aerial cableway.
