Theater Casino Zug

Description

The Theater Casino Zug is situated on the shores of Lake Zug, just south of the old town, and has combined a stage and a social hub under one roof since 1909. Here, "Casino" does not refer to a gambling establishment: when it was built, the requirement was not merely for a theatre, but for a venue capable of hosting large banquets. In the original building, the ballroom—with its magnificent chandelier and gilded decorations—resembles the ballroom of a Belle Époque grand hotel; the lake can be seen from the gallery, and a historic ticket booth stands by the old entrance. The theatre hall, seating over 600, is located in the 1981 extension made of reddish exposed concrete. As the fly tower is built into the hillside, the audience enters the hall from the lakeside via a wide promenade staircase, where the red curtain defines the tone of the auditorium. With its foyer, restaurant, and bar, the building provides the complete environment of a night at the theatre, from the box office to the stage itself.
