Summary
Sergei Rachmaninoff – the composer, conductor, pianist, Hollywood star and family man – created a place of pure magic with Villa Senar. On the Hertenstein peninsula near Weggis in the Canton of Luzern, he found his second home and was able to compose again for the first time after a long hiatus. The location inspired him and provided security for him and his family. He spent seven years (1933–1939) in his Bauhaus-style villa, composing works that shaped music history and represent his creative legacy. The villa remains furnished exactly as it was then and still houses Rachmaninoff’s grand piano. Today, it is owned by the Canton of Luzern and operated by a foundation as a cultural venue.
